An oil tanker has been seized by pirates off the coast of Nigeria. It is understood they plan to steal the vessel’s oil. A source told the Associated Press the hijacking took place off the coast of Port Harcourt in the south east of the country.

The ship has been named as MT Halifax in some reports, but the International Maritime Bureau could not give the identity of the ship.

An IMB spokesman said that the incident took place on 30 October, adding: “We understand that it has 25 crew on board.”
