Iran has inaugurated a major new wind farm project as the oil-rich nation aims to boost its use of green energy.

Industrial group MAPNA has completed the first phase of the 100MW wind farm – which will include 40 turbines – in Kahak, Qazvin province.

The first phase consists of seven turbines, three of which have already been commissioned and a further four are due to be switched on in the coming weeks.

The wind farm is scheduled to come online in the next two years, the firm said – which has a total of 750MW of wind projects planned in Iran.
