It’s been dubbed by its makers an Uber for energy experts – a reference to the app which revolutionised the way people order taxis.

Swiss-based renewable energy provider IWB says its online marketplace will match-make consumers with experts for help on their energy consumption.

Called IWB Friends, the online service will see energy analysts go to people’s homes to advise, implement and improve energy efficiency.

People often “do not understand how proper heating or more efficient bulbs can help reduce energy use,” says Marcel Sutter, Project Manager at energy firm IWB.

Its partner in the project, mila.com, a company which helps organisations improve customer satisfaction, believes it is an example of ‘crowdsourcing’ being used to show customers “exactly where in their home they can increase their energy efficiency to reduce their power bills”.
