New appointments to the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (GEMA) have been announced.

GEMA was established to support the interests and rights of consumers by promoting effective competition and regulating networks in the gas and electricity industry.

DECC and Ofgem have appointed Rachel Fletcher as Executive Director for the next seven years.

She is currently Senior Partner for the Consumers and Competition Division after being Ofgem’s leader for the Competition and Markets Authority’s Energy Markets Inquiry.

Christine Farnish has also been appointed as Non-Executive Director (NED) for five years.

She has a strong legacy as a NED across a range of sectors and extensive experience of consumer affairs, DECC added.
