A new energy plan that provides 100% green power has been launched for businesses.

Dubbed ‘SSE Green’, it is aimed at supporting large industrial and commercial operations in the UK manage their greenhouse gas emissions.

SSE Business Energy will supply renewable energy generated exclusively through its portfolio of wind and hydro plants.

The announcement comes as it has been mandatory for FTSE100 companies to outline their emissions in their annual reports since October 2013.

The latest amendments to the legislation have led to carbon management becoming an increasing focus for businesses as part of their wider environmental strategy.

Terry Tippell, SSE’s Director of Business Energy said: “We are delighted to offer this new contract to business customers which allows them to demonstrate their commitment to renewable and sustainable goals as well as enhancing their environmental reputation and commitment to customers and other stakeholders.

“Equally, large organisations can benefit greatly by being able to report zero emissions for their purchased electricity.”

The Big Six supplier added it has invested more than £4 billion in renewable energy, with 2,500MW of wind and hydro assets in operation.
