The UK gas system is 26mcm long as demand has eased.

According to npower’s daily market report, the increase in Brent and the decision not to flow at Rough is giving support to December gas.

Brent oil “has gained a little strength overnight as volatility continues to ripple through the market as the US presidential election news is absorbed”, said Rodney Johnson from the Optimisation Desk.

The price currently stands at $46.55/bbl (£37.6/bbl).

On the power system, wind generation is up, reaching 5GW today.

The French interconnector is exporting at full capacity into France right now though there will be a full reversal from 6pm this evening.

Mr Johnson adds: “Like yesterday there is a risk of a triad today with temperatures being so low for the time of year.”

The pound is valued at €1.14.
