District heating and cooling, according to the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive, is the distribution of thermal energy in the form of steam, hot water or chilled products from a centralised place of production through a network to multiple buildings or sites for space or process heating or cooling. Observing this definition, research has been undertaken to identify the number, capacity an outputs of CHP schemes serving district heating and cooling.
