Ofgem has appointed a preferred bidder to own and operate transmission links at an offshore wind farm in the UK.
The energy regulator has decided Diamond Transmission Partners (DTP) should take on the role at the Burbo Bank Extension facility in the Liverpool Bay for the next 20 years.
DTP is a consortium made up of Mitsubishi Corporation and infrastructure investor HICL.
The wind farm’s 32 turbines give it a capacity of 258MW, allowing it to provide around 230,000 homes with clean power and its transmission assets are estimated to be worth around £180.6 million.
The deal completes the procurement process of Tender Round 4 of the offshore transmission owner (OFTO) process, which saw the lowest bids to date as a proportion of the asset value.
Ofgem says this demonstrates the value of competitive tendering in providing the best value for consumers.
