America-owned distributor and marketer of energy products and services UGI Corporation has officially taken over Shell Gas UK and changed its name to AvantiGas. The acquisition is one of 12 by the company across Europe in the last year.

Donald Groth, Vice President at UGI Corporation, said there would be little restructuring: “There are no planned changes to price, service, employees or the management team as a result of the transaction, and we aim to continue business as usual, offering at the very least the same high level of service that Shell’s customers have been used to. In addition we are looking to drive the business forward with further improvements and have already invested in a new fleet of road tankers to enhance our readiness for the coming winter.”

UGI also purchased Shell’s liquefied petroleum gas businesses in seven other countries in Europe and the UK is now UGI’s second largest domestic LPG business outside of the United States.

LPG, made from propane, butane and mixes of the two, is produced from both the oil refining and natural gas extraction processes and is used for a wide range of applications in businesses and around the home.
