The Indian Government is set to invest around Rs 540 crore (£80million) in solar power-based water systems, reports claim.

The 10,000 dual pump piped water systems are expected to supply safe drinking water to around 78 districts affected by attacks from an underground political party in India called Maoists.

Reports claim around 200 such systems have already been set up in the state of Maharashtra.

The project will be funded by the country’s National Rural Drinking Water Programme and the National Clean Energy Fund.
