Danish manufacturer Vestas has been knocked off its perch as top wind turbine supplier for first time in 13 years. American firm GE Wind snatched the No 1 spot in the rankings after coming in third the year before.

The United States became the world’s top wind power market with the “strongest” yearly performance yet, also overtaking China for new wind installations in 2012, according to a new report on the world’s wind market by Navigant Research.

The world’s wind market looks likely to become even more valuable over the next couple of years, with the analysts predicting the market to grow from €57.7 billion in 2012 to €85.4 billion in 2017.
