DONG Energy has bought the remaining 66.66% share in the UK offshore wind development Hornsea Project One, making it the sole owner.

Located 120 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast, the 1.2GW project is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 800,000 homes.

DONG Energy had entered into a joint venture for the offshore wind project with SMart Wind in December 2011 and was granted consent to buy the remaining share in December last year.

Samuel Leupold, Executive Vice President of DONG Energy Wind Power said: “We will now continue on our own to develop the project towards a final investment decision.”
