The UK gas system is “well supplied” and prices are “soft”, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 14mcm long.

Exports via the UK Interconnector are increasing at 14mcm.

Sarah Astley, from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “Supply has also increased mainly from storage withdrawals with Holford at 22mcm and Aldborough at 6mcm.”

On the power system, the peak margin is forecast at 8GW and peak demand is expected to decrease to 45.4GW.

Wind is generating below 1GW but is expected to rise to 2.7GW.

Ms Astley added: “Coal generation has increased to 11.6GW which is helping to make up the shortfall however CCGT remains by far the dominant fuel source, currently making up 40% of the UK stack.”

Oil is currently trading at $49 per barrel.
