British sports fans are to pay £9 million in energy bills this summer to watch their favourite sports on TV.

New research from uSwitch.com reveals the average Brit will spend the equivalent of a working week watching sport on TV over the summer, with nearly 9% of sports fans having recently bought or planning to buy a new TV.

With 70% of consumers on the most expensive energy deals, sports fans could collectively save almost £2 million by switching to the cheapest tariff.

Tom Lyon, uSwitch.com Energy Expert said: “Hours sat in front of the TV is many a sport fan’s dream but it will add to already high energy bills. Switching energy provider could save Brits over £400 a year, more than covering the extra cost of watching sports this summer.”
