Electric Ireland has announced its withdrawal from the residential electricity market in Northern Ireland, affecting approximately 53,000 households.
The Dublin-based company, following a strategic review of its operations in the region, stated its intention to concentrate solely on supplying electricity to businesses.
While the decision means a transition for affected residential customers to other suppliers in due course, Electric Ireland has assured that there will be no immediate disruption to service, and customers need not take any immediate action.
Currently holding about 6% of the residential market in Northern Ireland since entering it in 2015, Electric Ireland emphasised that its focus will now be on its business clientele, where it commands approximately a third of the market share.
Addressing potential concerns among customers and employees, Electric Ireland underscored that there are no immediate job losses planned among its staff supporting residential customers.
