Nestlé is making a brand of its ice cream with solar power.

The food company famed for its nutty chocolate spread has installed a solar power system at its ice cream factory in Ferentino, western Italy.

Manuela Kron, Corporate Affairs Director for Nestlé Italy said it was part of the company’s wider renewable aims: “The Ferentino solar power system is a high priority for us. It is a tangible expression of our commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development.”

The Ferentino factory pumps out more than 26,000 tonnes of ice cream per year with the help of the solar power system that produces enough energy to meet around 14% of the factory’s total energy needs.
