Scotland’s Energy Minister Fergus Ewing will today visit Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre or EMEC. His two day trip will focus around the research and testing facilities of the centre which is now being used by many tidal energy companies from across Europe and the world.

EMEC is the only centre of its kind which offers developers of machines which generate electricity from waves and tidal streams the opportunity to test prototype machines in the world class conditions around Orkney, Scotland. More marine energy converters have been tested at EMEC than any other single site.

During his trip Mr Ewing will tour the testing facilities and have talks with Managing Director Neil Kermode. EMEC which has grid connections was established with around £30 million of public funding.
