Westinghouse Electric Company has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Czech company Vitkovice a.s. for the procurement of nuclear components should the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power plants planned in the Czech Republic get the go-ahead.

Yves Brachet, Westinghouse’s President for the Europe, Middle East & Africa region said: “Westinghouse has a policy that ‘We Buy Where We Build’- even when it has been explicitly stated by the Czech Government and our potential customer, CEZ, that localisation is not something they will be considering in the bid evaluation process.”

Westinghouse technology accounts for approximately one-half of the world’s operating nuclear plants.
