A century-old foundry in Lancashire is cutting its energy bills by £8,000 a year.

Installing energy efficient lighting means the foundry, Lupton & Place, will cut its energy use by 85,000kWh and slashing its CO2 emissions by 46.3 tons annually.

The family-run business can make more than 2 million castings a year with its die-casting process, which casts metal under high pressure to make parts for machinery.

John Bardgett, Foundry Manager at Lupton & Place said: “We chose to invest in energy efficient lighting across the foundry as it had a quick payback and limited interruption to our business during installation.”

The scheme is eligible for the Government’s Enhanced Capital Allowances with 100% of the project cost being written off in the first year.

David Hunt, Sales and Marketing Director for Eco Environments which installed the efficient lighting said: “We are seeing huge demand from businesses, particularly those with high lighting usage, for energy efficient lighting installations.”

More and more commercial customers want to install different types of renewable energy and energy efficiency technology to cut bills, he added.
