British Gas has launched a new online tool to help homeowners check what energy saving measures they are entitled to under the Government’s Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation (ECO) schemes.

The Green Deal meets the upfront costs of eco-improvements with a loan paid back through energy savings, while ECO sets energy companies targets for tackling carbon emissions and fuel poverty. It’s estimated 12 million homes in the UK are still without adequate loft and wall insulation.

By answering a few questions about their home, users can find out if they are eligible for insulation or a new boiler. The supplier follows up with an over the phone assessment and a free building survey where necessary.

Claire Williams, Managing Director of British Gas New Energy said: “With an estimated £1 in £4 spent on heating bills wasted due to poor insulation… we’re keen to help as many people as possible take advantage of these measures.”

The online tool can be found at www.ecobritishgas.co.uk/eco
