Fire has raged at a London waste recycling plant for four days, devouring 2,500 tonnes of waste.

The blaze near Creek Way in Rainham began on Monday morning, with 12 fire engines and 81 firefighters and officers working at the height of the incident.

Eight workers left the Frog Island Waste Management Facility, run by Shanks, before the London Fire Brigade arrived and no one was injured.

Yesterday firefighters were still “damping down pockets of fire” and they are still present at the scene this morning, according to the Brigade.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
