The construction of three battery containers with a capacity of 1MW each have started in Germany.

The aim of the project is to deliver control reserve power to the country’s transmission grid.

The battery containers are expected to be tested and start operation by the end of the year.

They are owned by Norwegian company Statkraft and will be located at the site of Dörverden, northern Germany.

The company said: “With the prices of batteries or battery systems in decline, new business opportunities arise in the market for primary control power.”
