The UK gas system is 2mcm long.

That’s because demand is low, according to the daily market report from npower.

Nicholas Morgan from the Optimisation Desk said: “Norwegian flows are still affected by many outages. Kaarstoe outage ended but Skarv flows are cut by 9mcm for today.”

Flows from the Langeled pipeline are at 21mcm.

Mr Morgan added: “On the LNG side, things are looking good as Milford Haven is expecting two tankers, due to arrive next week.

“Temperatures are beginning to drop below average and it should last for six to 10 days. Temperatures are not expected to rise back to normal before the 2nd of May.”

On the power system, the peak margin is above 10GW.

Wind is generating 1.4GW below forecasts but it is expected to pick up to 3.5GW tomorrow.

Mr Morgan went on: “That should give CCGTs some relief as they are now providing nearly 60% again and coal 18.5% while the Dutch and French interconnectors are importing close to capacity.”

Brent oil is trading below $45/bbl (£31.05/bbl).
