UK announces new scientific project to help on net zero journey

The project will see scientific evidence brought to the fore to guide government in how to implement the best policies

The UK has announced a new ‘Foresight Project’, which will see scientists provide help inform government on the long-term net zero strategy.

Evidence and tools to help understand behaviours and the science behind taking climate action will help the UK in its journey to achieving net zero by 2050.

The project will run until the end of 2022 and produce evidence from experts of what needs to be implemented within the energy system and infrastructure.

Patrick Vallance, the government’s Chief Scientific Adviser, said: “If we are to keep warming below 1.5°C, changes within society will matter as much as big technological changes. Through this research, we can understand the impact of potential societal changes on our path to achieving net zero.”
