Energy crisis: Council to close offices this month to save £75k on bills

A local authority in Nottinghamshire has announced council office closures during holiday periods

Nottinghamshire County Council has unveiled a plan to close almost two-thirds of its offices this month to save on energy bills.

The local authority said staff based at these selected buildings are allowed to work at alternative buildings or from home.

It is estimated that these closures will lead to £75,000 in total savings.

This covers energy bills, as well as running costs such as cleaning and rubbish collection.

Councillor Keith Girling, Cabinet Member for Economic Development said: “Due to the age and design of many of our buildings they cost as much to keep running for a small number of staff as they do when fully occupied, so these temporary closures are common sense, particularly in light of high energy costs.

“As a council, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint as well as making the best use of taxpayers’ money, particularly given current budget pressures.”
