The Department for Transport is calling for help to shape the low carbon future of aviation policy. It wants to hear from anyone who benefits from or is affected by aviation to answer questions in a scoping document that will help it draft a new long-term sustainable strategy for the UK.

The air transport sector provides about 150,000 jobs in the UK and made £9 billion for the economy in 2009, but it also made up 6% of UK greenhouse gas emissions.

DfT wants its new policy framework to address aviation’s environmental impacts as well assupport economic growth. Contributions to their investigation have been requested by 30 September 2011.
