An Australian data centre company has pledged to measure the energy efficiency of its sites and make them as green as they can be.

Digital Realty Trust runs eight data centres in the UK, another in Ireland and many more across the US, Australia and Asia.

Today the business said it will use data centre rating tools from the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS).

It plans to make its existing data centres as “energy efficient as possible” within the next 18 months.

The company had a patriotic message for the data centre industry in Australia.

Damien Spillane, Digital Realty’s Head of Sales Engineering said: “We encourage other data centre providers to join us and commit to rating their energy efficiency, to ensure that the Australian data centre industry is the forerunner in energy performance and sustainability.”

The UK was rated second best country in the world for locating data centres for risk in a recent ranking with Australia 23rd place.
