The UK gas system is well supplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 19mcm long.

Temperatures continue to be mild for the time of year which has resulted in demand dropping around 12% below seasonal normal levels. The latest forecasts show it is expected to get colder in the next couple of weeks.

Exports via the UK’s Interconnector have reduced to 10mcm which is also reducing demand today.

Supplies are also a little higher this morning with Norwegian pipeline Langeled increasing by 5mcm to 54mcm and the Balgzang Bacton Line up 2mcm at 21mcm.

The power system is healthy this morning with the forecast peak margin more than 11GW.

Wind generation is quite healthy at 4.2GW which is in line with forecasts and is expected to increase through the day to a peak of almost 7GW tonight. Nuclear generation is also higher today at 8.8GW.

Sarah Astley from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Oil has lost ground since Friday and is currently trading at $42.6 a barrel (£28/bbl) – which is around the lowest level of the year.”
