Arriva partners with SSE to drive down emissions

The Big Six firm is to provide the passenger transport provider with 100% renewable energy

Arriva has partnered with SSE to power bus and rail sites across the UK with 100% renewable electricity.

The passenger transport provider and the Big Six firm have announced they have signed a three-year supply contract – the companies predict they will prevent an estimated 27,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere each year.

This is the equivalent to powering almost 25,000 homes with green electricity or the amount of emissions a standard car would produce over 95 million miles.

Arriva will also have access to SSE’s online energy portal, enabling it to monitor consumption and implement effective power-saving practices.

Andrew Clark, Head of Environmental Sustainability at Arriva, said: “SSE has backed the electricity supply for our UK sites with generation from 100% renewable sources, supported by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin certificates*.

“It’s a clear example of our commitment to decarbonising the transport sector and helping the UK meet its sustainability targets.”
