Iberdrola has completed the sale of 55% of its Mexican business for approximately $6.2 billion (£4.8bn).
The transaction encompasses the sale of 13 generation plants with a combined capacity of 8,539MW, primarily comprising gas-fired combined cycle power stations.
Iberdrola will maintain ownership of 15 plants, alongside its private customer base and renewable energy projects, including a pipeline of over 6,000MW of wind and solar assets slated for development in the coming years.
The deal also involves the transfer of private combined cycle gas plants and the employment of 460 individuals to a trust managed by Mexico Infrastructure Partners.
