Are you tired of rising energy prices? Do you wish you had the power to cut your bills? Well, a new competition could let you do just that.
DECC has launched a £5 million ‘Collective Purchasing/Switching’ competition to help consumers group together and use market power to negotiate lower energy bills through a trusted third party. The scheme comes as SSE and British Gas announce price rises.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey is encouraging local authorities and third sector organisations to come up with new collective purchasing initiatives.
Mr Davey said: “With energy bills on the rise I am more convinced than ever that collective purchasing and switching can play a big role in helping households in Scotland get a better deal for their gas and electricity… I particularly want to see schemes focused on using collective purchasing to help the most vulnerable households.”
Details will be available later this year including criteria on which bids will be judged and the timetable for awarding the funds.
