Around 41% of energy bill payers struggle to afford their bills.
That’s according to a survey conducted between 17th and 28th January by the Office for National Statistics.
The survey also revealed that 44% of adults in Britain are reducing their fuel usage due to increasing living expenses.
Among those reporting increased living costs, 81% cited higher gas or electricity bills as a primary reason.
Additionally, from October 18, 2023, to January 1, 2024, approximately 19% of adults had difficulty keeping their homes comfortably warm, a slight improvement from 24% in a similar period in 2022.
Despite gas and electricity prices decreasing by 26.5% and 13.0%, respectively, in the year leading to January 2024, many households still feel financial strain.
Motor fuel prices, however, continued to decrease, with petrol dropping by 2.9 pence per litre and diesel by 3.1 pence per litre between December 2023 and January 2024, resulting in a 9.2% overall reduction in motor fuel costs in the year to January 2024.
