British Gas to add 1,000 electric vans to fleet with ‘largest-ever’ UK commercial BEV order

The energy provider, which has the third-largest commercial fleet in the country, has committed to fully electrifying its vehicles by 2030

Engineers from British Gas will soon be driving around more sustainably, thanks to the 1,000 new electric vans which are to be added to the company’s fleet.

The energy provider has confirmed the new order from the automotive manufacturer Vauxhall, a development which it claims is the ‘largest UK commercial’ battery electric vehicle (BEV) order ever.

The BEVs are expected to arrive in British Gas’ premises in the next 12 months.

The firm, which has the third-largest commercial fleet in the country, has committed to fully electrifying it by 2030.

Matthew Bateman, Managing Director of British Gas, commented: “Transport is a key area where we can improve carbon emissions and is an important part of our strategy to meet our net zero targets.”

Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps said: “This is a huge step for such an iconic British company, who are showing leadership in making the switch to zero-emission vehicles as we to strive to meet net zero emissions by 2050.”
