It’ll take years to see energy prices return to pre-war levels, says Enel’s boss

Efforts to bring prices down should rely on utilising new energy sources such as heat pumps

Households and companies might have to wait years to see energy prices back to pre-Ukraine war levels.

That’s the suggestion from Enel’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager Francesco Starace who said alternative energy sources, including heat pumps and renewables, could play a significant role in countries’ efforts in bringing energy bills and carbon down.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Starace said the global energy crisis “showed very clearly how dependence on one single source of energy is dangerous for Europe”.

Enel’s boss said the future will be “extremely decarbonised”, with nuclear and renewable energy predicted to play an important role in that.
