Nearly three-quarters of Brits ‘haven’t a clue about gas boiler pollution’

A new poll shows almost 89% of people do not know that a gas boiler emits more carbon than a new car

Pathway to COP26 report

Emissions from gas boilers seem to be currently a blind spot for Brits.

A new survey by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) suggests nearly 74% of people are unaware of the nitrous oxide (NOx) air pollution created by gas boilers.

Nitrogen oxides in the outdoor air contribute to particle pollution and the chemical reactions that create the ozone layer.

The survey of 2,017 people also showed that almost 89% of people do not know that a gas boiler emits more carbon than a new car.

A further 45% believe that boilers are about the same or less polluting than a new car.

The government’s Heat and Buildings Strategy is expected to be published this week.
